4-H and HughesNet are excited to announce an online resource that provides fun, easy, and hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities to everyone! The 4-H STEM Lab is an online center where you can find some of the best STEM activities from top public universities and 4-H groups across the country.
What is The STEM Lab?
This online resource introduces kids to exciting STEM activities through experiential learning. Build a robot, experience fuzzy foam chemistry, or build a RubberBand car with your kids and learn about STEM topics along the way.
The STEM Lab provides a detailed list of each step in the activity. You can also find the estimated time needed to complete the activity. Our favorite feature is the Messy Meter, which gives you an easy way to know how much clean up time you’ll need.
Most importantly, the STEM Lab provides a clear explanation of the STEM concept for activity leaders (which could be teachers, parents, leaders of clubs, etc.). Not only can you have fun completing each activity with your kids, but you can also make sure they learn along the way.
Brought to You by HughesNet and 4-H
Why is this tool important for kids and families? Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that occupations related to STEM are projected to grow to more than 9 million between 2012 and 2022. Early exposure to STEM experiences and hands-on activities helps position students for a lifetime of success. The STEM Lab can help kids interact with STEM subjects in a low stress atmosphere and build confidence that can feed their interest when they return to the classroom in the fall.
STEM is one of the pillars of 4-H, America’s largest youth development organization. HughesNet understands how vital STEM education is to America’s future, and continues to support 4-H STEM initiatives since 2013. As a joint effort between 4-H and HughesNet, the STEM Lab represents an ongoing commitment to making STEM learning opportunities available to everyone.
